Canadian Motivational Speaker Always Accessible To Toastmasters Clubs

It was really fun chairing the special club meeting we had this Saturday with Raj doing a very interesting Table Topic-advanced manual project and Jocelyne with her workshop. We also had time to do a special Quebec style Table Topics session on top of that since it was a good preparation for the October club contest. Because of other duties as a Canadian Motivational speaker, I haven't chaired a Toastmasters club meeting for a long time now.

At the end of the meeting, I mentioned that it was to be my final official club meeting as I will need to commit my time elsewhere from now on. However, this doesn't mean goodbye to club members. This Canadian motivational speaker is online with a video show each week as I put out a new episode of Motivational WebTV. Everyone can catch the latest episodes at my official website. In fact, if you catch this blog post in time, the episode for week 4 of September will feature exciting video footage of scuba diving with dolphins in their own habitat underwater.

All club members of Comfortably Speaking can always contact me through my website if they ever have any questions about Toastmasters, public speaking or whatever. I am always just a mouseclick away. I may end up working with a few Toastmasters on some big speaking events in the future so stay tuned as I'm sure the club executive will keep everyone posted if these materialize.

My best wishes for all at Comfortably Speaking Toastmasters club and their progress!

Clint Cora, DTM
Canadian Motivational Speaker

Club Meeting Recap August 21, 2010

Had a good club meeting today. Kunal did a speech on success with a story about his school basketball team tryout. Supriya did one on interpersonal relations while Roxine did one on her latest passion, wines. Nikesh did an advanced speech on how to become a better speaker.

Everyone did their meeting roles well and in particular, Cheryl did a pretty good job as a first timer in the Toastmaster role.

As General Evaluator, I did point out a few things that we as a club can work on. Here is my summary;

1) Chair can spend less than 10 seconds just to explain what Toastmasters International is since this goes a long way for guests.

2) Toastmaster can physically show both educational manuals so guests can see that there is something tangible here.

3) Club executive wearing name badges can increase interaction with guests and new members during breaks. We were all new members to Toastmasters once and we remember just how scary it can be in a new atmosphere so let's really try to make both guests and new members feel welcome.

4) Bring your CL manuals to every club meeting. This is the only form of feedback when doing our various meeting roles. After all, we want to do these roles well, right? Plus the club needs to achieve at least two CL awards in order to get one of the ten points in order to become Distinuished status for the year. Half of the members seem to be actively working on their CL manuals which is great. Let's move it up to everyone, especially for those who have not earned their CLs yet.

These points should be for every Toastmasters club meeting as they all help to make our meetings more effective and increase membership.

Thanks to all those who attended today. Hope it was worthwhile.

Until next time

Clint

What Toastmasters Skills Can Result In

Here's a real treat today. I started my Toastmasters career in Montreal when I was living there and the president of my Montreal TM club at that time always had a lifelong goal of writing and starring in her own live theatrical play. Well, looks like this summer, she finally did it.

Tali Brady, a DTM now, was captured in action on stage as well as interviewed in the video below. This just shows one example of what Toastmasters skills can result in. Enjoy the clip.

Different Type Of Toastmasters Meeting Today

Today was a different type of Toastmasters meeting. We had two members, Ame and Leonard, do manual speeches. I got to evaluate Leonard and I must say that he has been developing nicely. Leonard did a speech on the important of saving money while Ame did one on culture shock from the new immigrants's point of view.

We also had Gregory Smith from Hanover, Ontario as a special guest. Gregory will be representing our district at the International Speech Contest next week in California. He did both of the speeches that he will bring down to the International Toastmasters conference. Susan and former district governor John McDonald led evaluations for Gregory's speeches in a round table format. This is how evaluations are done in advanced Toastmasters clubs.

Club president Raj presented Susan with her much deserved DTM plaque near the end of the meeting.

Carassauga Festival Of Cultures Video Highlights

At the last club meeting for Comfortably Speaking Toastmasters, I was talking about the Carassauga Festival of Cultures which took place right here in Mississauga back in May. It was so surprising, at least to me, that hardly any of the club members attended this amazing event.

We are quite a diverse group at Comfortably Speaking Toastmasters club and if we truly embrace diversity, we should be supporting events like Carassauga. Not only is it an entertaining, educational and very affordable way to learn about each other's cultures, our attendance supports the efforts of the people from our own ethnic cultures who are working hard to put on the various pavilions.

Well, if you missed Carassauga for this year, I just happen to have captured a lot of video footage from the event since I was attending it with a camcorder on hand. I decided to use these video highlights as part of an episode of my Clint Cora Motivational WebTV series online. This particular episode with the Carassauga Festival of Cultures video highlights are reproduced for your viewing pleasure below. Other past episodes of my online show are at Motivational Videos archive.

Self Improvement At Mississauga Toastmasters Club Contest

It was great to see everyone again at our Mississauga Toastmasters club contest today. I haven't been to the club since December and seeing familiar faces as well as new ones made my visit worthwhile. Congrats to all who participated and volunteered for a role in the contest today.

For me, it was a real challenge to bring my usual 60 minute keynote that I usually present as one of my self improvement presentations to six minutes.

Motivational Speaker In Niagara Falls New York

I was the token motivational speaker at the Toastmasters district 65 conference in Niagara Falls, New York yesterday. My session had a full room to a great audience. I did about 45 minutes with time for questions to fill in the full hour which is longer than other district conferences. The conference was held at the Seneca Niagara Casino Hotel which had superb facilities including built in screen and computer projectors (and not to mention free garage parking). Niagara Falls turned out to be a great location being so close to the border.

The Q&A session was also active with questions ranging from my personal and professional history, Toastmasters background, availability to present to clubs and martial arts. The conference organizers set up a table for me outside the seminar room so I could sell my Life Champion In You books and CDs which were widely received by many interested members of the audience.

A very well organized and speaker friendly district. Kudos to Melinda and the rest of her team at district 65 for putting on a great conference! It was great to meet and have some positive impact on so many people from the western New York area.

More Diversity Training Needed In Workplaces

Here's a new article which shows definite proof that diversity training programs are needed in workplaces today. And if you don't think that diversity is needed in colleges and universities, think again. This article suggests that the earlier people learn to develop diversity skills, the better our future workplaces will be. See this article called Playing Catch Up Ball With Diversity. Toastmasters is also getting more diverse and I would think that diversity topics would fit right in with conference workshops.

Polar Bear Cubs So Cute On New Calendars

Darn these polar bear cubs are so cute. Saw them on new 2010 calendars of polar bears. These majestic Arctic animals are definitely the best symbol of Canada. If anybody feels the same way, I hope a speech on polar bears will be done at our Toastmasters club.

Last weekend, Comfortably Speaking Toastmasters club ran its first club meeting ever without either club founder Susan or past president Clint attending. The meeting went well and this just shows the great personal development that other members have achieved. The other members are now able to take a club meeting and run it as an efficient Toastmasters club should run. Well done everyone.
